Artist's Comments

Goldfish done in Illustrator for a project on 'product illustration'. Okay, this isn't a product, but that's okay. The whole point of the assignment was to use gradients, mesh, and blend.

I was just happy to finally get to work with a fish again.

Man, I bet this was a lotta fun working on. It looks great! I mean, goodness, the tails and fins alone. I tip my hat to you!

Why yes, they do call me Cuban Pete and, in all honesty, I am the king of the rhumba beat.

Thanks! Yes it was a lot of fun once I finally got going with it. :)

Now we just have to wait and see what Ping says tomorrow....

you've done a great job on giving the fish's body some depth. he really looks aquadynamic. and the tail and fins have a really nice, subtle sense of movement, like we're seeing him on a lazy stroll around the fish tank. the scales are nice, too. they give the body a pattern, filling up that space. varying the size of the scales might help give the sense of depth a little boost--smaller scales toward the tail and belly--but this is a really nice piece. good job!

Ping liked it too!

The class feedback was all much more positive than last time. Some said that the fish actually looked like it was wet. Totally not intentional, but it made my day.

wow thats nice!
